The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office has identified the man struck and killed by Caltrain south of the Mountain View Caltrain station on Jan. 29 as Daniel Snyder, 28, of Palo Alto.

Snyder was a 2005 graduate of Palo Alto High School, where he played on the tennis team.

The incident happened at around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Pioneer Way and Evelyn Avenue. Caltrain tracks were then closed in both directions in the area, causing up to an hour and a half of delays. Northbound tracks were re-opened at 5:10 p.m. and southbound tracks just before 7 p.m., according to Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn.

Normal service was restored by 8 p.m., Dunn said.

A preliminary investigation indicates the fatality was an intentional act, Dunn said, but the coroner’s office has not yet released its determination as to whether the death was a suicide.
