Brad Branson Lowman
May 13, 1942-June 21, 2013
Palo Alto, California

Submitted by Christopher Lowman

Brad Lowman, 71, born on May 13, 1942 died peacefully on June 21 in his sleep at his home in Palo Alto after a short illness. He was surrounded by family and friends throughout that morning.

Brad was born in Warrensburg, MI, and moved first to Oregon, then Washington, and later to the Bay Area. He was a graduate of Palo Alto High School (class of 1960). Brad served twice in the United States Army during the 1960's and was in the Berlin Brigade.

Brad was a photographer who worked at Keeble and Shuchat Photography on California Avenue for over 30 years. He would often come home after work with stories about the travels and life-events he would hear about from his customers. Brad began his photography career taking pictures at horse shows, and later focused on bird photography. His photographs were published in several magazines, including Stanford Magazine. More recently he primarily photographed landscapes and architecture, particularly from his road trips to the Sierras and Yosemite, and on the campus of Stanford University. He was a Stanford Football fan, and enjoyed watching any sport, particularly at the Olympics and when his son and later his grandson fenced.

Brad loved to travel and explore, and visited England and Scotland with his family, Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic with his son, and most recently Korea with his wife. He loved seeing the expressions of joy in his son and grandson when they would discover new things. He was fond of holidays. On Halloween, he would always give out large candy-bars to trick-or-treaters and was proud that his house was known as a "good house to go to." For Thanksgiving and Christmas, he would look forward to traditions, time spent with his family, and to Holiday Pudding. He was generous and a wonderful gift-giver and loved to find surprises for everyone in the family and those with whom he was close.

Brad is survived by his wife Melody, son Christopher, step-daughter Marté Matthews, son-in-law Paul Means, and grandson Jonathan.
