A 22-year-old man died of apparent gunshot wounds in North Fair Oaks on March 2, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 11:30 p.m. on March 2, the Sheriff’s Office received a call that shots had been fired in the 400 block of 5th Avenue in North Fair Oaks, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

When they arrived, they found a young man with apparent gunshot wounds. Paramedics responded and confirmed the man was deceased, according to a press statement.

The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office identified the man who died as Andrew Michael Pohahau. The Sheriff’s Office has identified him as a 22-year-old of Polynesian descent.

The motive and the suspect are still under investigation. Detectives are working with the county’s crime lab to process the crime scene and have initiated a homicide investigation.

People are advised to avoid the area of 5th Avenue between Middlefield Road and Park Road.
