A plan for a two-story office building on the east side of El Camino Real, near Buckthorn Way, could see approval from the City Council at its meet Tuesday, Oct. 20.

The 10,100-square-foot medical and professional office building at 1706 El Camino Real would replace a vacant one-story building, previously occupied by Gaylord India restaurant.

The project underwent an extensive redesign in response to community concerns raised in late 2007. Its architecture “reflects a contemporary Santa Barbara … style with a cement plaster exterior finish,” according to the staff report.

The project has been designed to meet LEED Silver green building standards, though the developer does not plan to go through the costly certification process.

The project would not require a general plan amendment or zoning change.

  1. Well, this will suck for those of us living next to the construction, and more specifically having our living room window next to the proposed garbage dumpster location.

  2. Could someone please explain to me why, when there of gobs of available office/medical space already out there, someone wants to put up even more of the same???
Why isn’t this site being considered for housing?

  3. I think the City is stuck on Office space. I guess they want high unoccupied buildings in the city. Why not a resturant?? Just say no!!

  4. How about a Peter Luger West. This famous Williamsburg restaurant would be a great addition to Menlo Park. It would also be the best steak house west of the East River.

  5. There is demand for medical/dental office because Stanford’s expansion is causing the Welch Road offices to move off campus. Rather than build offices on Stanford land in Menlo Park, the doctors are forced to find their own. Developers are happy to do this, especially when Menlo Park sllows medical offices in the commercial district. The city has been loathe to specify what uses are okay or to say no to almost anything.
