Thanks to all candidates

Original post made by DownInMP, Menlo Park: The Willows, on Nov 7, 2006

Having spent the better part of the last month watching all the negative campaigning it has left me feeling pretty down, and I'm not even running for anything. So to all six candidates, all of which I am sure genuinely think they have Menlo Parks best interests in mind, I would like to offer my thanks. However the election turns out, it is pretty gutsy to put yourselves out there. To endure attacks personally by arm chair quarter backs who will never get in the game all for a thankless job is pretty impressive. Thank you again.

I second that! Thanks to all the candidates for putting themselves out there.

As a community, we need to take a look at the overzealous nature of some parties on both sides of this debate. What can we do to keep the unnecessary nastiness off of both sides?

Ditto -- it's really a sacrifice to step forward and go out there and spend countless hours meeting with people, istening, learning the issues, creating and putting out literature, recruiting people, raising money -- ALL of it. Even those things that their passion called forth that others could label "overzealous" -- one person's overzealous is another's courage. That's the nature of a free democracy and public discourse. People are allowed their passions (even when I think they are wrong! It's our 1st amendment treasure!)

Everyone who ran provided a great service to the CIty, and all of their commitment to our CIty is important. And that goes for all of their hard working supporters whom they inspired to get involved. We need them ALL to stay involved and work "across party lines"

Regardless of the final outcome, we need to bring thic CIty together behind a centrist vision.

There is so much to do. We need to all work together to make things better for us and all our kids.
