Menlo Park: Belle Haven visioning process steps into action phase

Menlo Park residents and city officials came together last week in a communal effort to address and prioritize key issues affecting the city's Belle Haven neighborhood.

"I know a lot of people think there is a lot of crime," Chief Jonsen said. "The crime here, statistically, is no different than any other part of the city. It is almost number for number."

I beg your pardon?

When was the last time you had a drive-by shooting on the west side of 101? I lost count, but since October, Belle Haven has had no less than 10 incidents of gun attacks. Inluding one just last Saturday.

I don't think the rest of the city has drug-dealing gangsters. The most that was even done about crime around here was when Jim Neal was drug abatement officer. He LIVED to make our neighborhood safe, but the effort wore him out. Waiting to see if we can ever inspire that kind of dedication again.
