Sequoia Healthcare District boundaries divide Menlo Park

Original post made by Jack Hickey, Woodside: Emerald Hills, on Mar 2, 2013

During the recent election I discovered an unpublicized fact: Many residents of Menlo Park do not reside in the Sequoia Healthcare District's boundaries.
Registered voter information shows that 12 precincts (with 6,618 voters) out of 31 are not in the District. None of their property tax dollars go to the District. However, since they pay the same 1% tax as do District residents, the portion of their taxes which would have gone to the District are distributed to the other government agencies in whose jurisdiction they reside.

Dissolution of the Sequoia Healthcare District would make the distribution of property taxes for ALL Menlo Park residents the same. An alternative would be annexation of the non-District precincts. If District funding for such an annexation were to be the same as current funding by property taxes, it would require those other government agencies in whose jurisdiction they reside to release a portion of their property tax revenue.

As a thrice-elected Member of the Sequoia Healthcare District Board of Directors, I call for the dissolution of the Sequoia Healthcare District. I invite readers to visit the many other topics in the Town Square Forum, and then let the other Members of the Sequoia Healthcare District Board of Directors know where you stand.
