I urge Angela to be more of a "reporter" and less of a "repeater" and advocate. Let's stick to facts & ask probing questions. For example:
1) Was this Atherton's first Earth DaY?-
- NO! Atherton has celebrated Earth Day for at least ten (10) years
2) Assertion:"3.8% of the town's greenhouse gas emissions come from gas-powered garden equipment"
- Really? Where are the supporting facts?
- Gas powered garden equipment is a MUCH larger set of equipment than "gas powered leaf blowers"
- The greatest source of pollution in Atherton is almost certainly the continuing bulldozing of existing homes & construction of massive new mansions
- The environmental damage from construction of new batteries & the electrical/mechanical parts & their truck/marine shipment from China of new leaf blowers will exceed many years of using the existing ones - replace them (as CA already requires next year) with non-fossil fuel versions when they are at end of their life
3) How many Atherton residents attended this Earth Day Rally?
- I was there for 2 hours & noted a large number "attendees" that were Vendors, Town staff & families, Town Council & Committee/Earth Day volunteers/
- Beyond that, the attendance by Atherton Residents was very, very low
I (& many others) would appreciate the Almanac providing more than just quotes.
