Menlo Park district to look internally for new superintendent to start

The Menlo Park City School District is beginning to interview candidates for the superintendent role next week, one of many administrative roles expected to change in the coming months.

It is terrific that the MPCSD has such an impressive pool of internal candidates to select from and that the MPCSD is prioritizing an internal hire.

With that said, it is shortsighted to also not consider external hires. At worst, we will confirm that our internal candidates are best qualified to lead when compared to a broader field of candidates. At best, we will prevent a biased hire. While I fully support an internal hire, considering external candidates when there is an internal favorite is standard practice in most businesses.
