Candidates for two seats on the board of the Menlo Park City School District have filed their campaign finance reports.

For the period from July 1 through Sept. 24, Scott Saywell reports he has raised $900 and loaned his campaign $8,150. He said he spent $1,823 on a logo, voter data file, yard signs, office supplies and T-shirts.

Candidate Alka Gupta reported raising $4,075, including $2,000 she donated to her campaign on Oct. 3. She reported that through Sept. 24 she had not spent any money.

Candidate Caroline Lucas had said she planned to raise and spend less than $2,000, which would have excused her from filing campaign finance reports. But on Oct. 3 Ms. Lucas reported two donations from Atherton’s Peter Carpenter, totaling $2,100. She will have to report any spending by the next reporting date, Oct. 27.

Candidate David Ackerman also said he will raise and spend less than $2,000. He voluntarily provided the Almanac with his spending: $460 for signs and stickers. He said he is not accepting donations.

Ms. Gupta reported that three donors have given $500 each: Sharad Rostogi of Menlo Park, Cisco executive; Shefali Narayan of Singapore, Oracle operations; and Mita Gupta of New York, GEP general manager and global vice president.

She reported that these donors have given $100 each: Arjun Gupta of Bowling Green, Ohio, Bowling Green State professor; Nisha Gupta of Dulles, Virginia, Center for Disease Control scientist; Allen Weiner of Menlo Park, Stanford lecturer; Ramkumar Agrawal of Sylvania, Ohio, retired; and Amy Redell of Menlo Park, Adobe.

Mr. Saywell’s form had the city of residence blacked out. He reported that Rob Bentley, owner of Bay City Windows, donated $200, and that these donors gave $100 each: Sheila Cooper, retired; Keri Nicholas, Realtor; Barbara Berman, retired; Carolyn Feamster, biotech consultant; and Nancy Rankin, retired teacher.

Donors of less than $100 need not be reported.

  1. I support David Ackerman and Scott Saywell for School Board members.

And I think its great in this age that David is not accepting any donations at this time. He seems to be a level headed and well educated person who just wants to do whats right for the schools, students and the community. And its just the same for Scott, who is an outstanding community member.

We all know how Peter Carpenter, Caroline Lucas and their group of haters feel about our hard working teachers, students and other community members.

As they say haters are gonna hate. To me this group of people (Peter, Caroline and some of their other supporters) are just like Trump supporters. Caroline will NEVER get my vote or support.

  2. I love it! You disagree with others and you call them “Haters”. Maybe you should reflect on yourself.

Caroline Lucas is the ONLY Candidate to receive the endorsements of the Almanac and Daily POST and both publications met and interviewed EACH AND EVERY candidate.

It is your democratic right to state your preference, but keep the derogatory comments out of your message. It only reduces your credibility.

  3. Typical, those that think the board can do no wrong call those of us demanding proper fiscal management of our schools are “haters.” Except we’re not. I challenge “In” and anyone else to point to language or posts that support your contention that we “hate” our hard working teachers or anyone else.

  4. “I think MAYBE Caroline is just Peters and his supporters puppet to put on the school board to try and cause conflict and to damage ongoing community relationships? between MPCSD and the community?”

Wrong – Here was a wrote weeks ago:

    Caroline,

I have and will continue to provide financial support for your campaign and I want to make it explicitly clear that I expect nothing in return for this support except that you will serve the community to the best of your ability as you see fit.

    Peter
    Peter Carpenter

    *****
    Is that clear enough?

  5. Menlo Voter please see my earlier comment.

“It is your democratic right to state your preference, but keep the derogatory comments out of your message. It only reduces your credibility.”

Regarding Caroline Lucas trying to damage the relationship between MPCSD and the Community. Her entire campaign has been around rebuilding the trust between the board and the broader MP community through communication and transparency. It is time the general community has a voice at the table and this is why I think BOTH the Almanac and the Daily POST endorsed her. None of the other candidates have the endorsement of BOTH papers.

    Finally, you state:

“I’m of the opinion that she never severed successfully in a top leadership role nor has any experience in a school board of this size.”

This is your OPINION and you have a right to that opinion, but it does not hold much weight unless you can back up the claim that she never “served” successfully in a top leadership role without some supporting evidence.

AGAIN FOLKS PLEASE KEEP THESE POSTS FOCUSED ON THE ISSUES AND NOT ATTACKING EACH OTHER OR THE CANDIDATES!!!

  6. menlo park voter:

what the hell are you talking about? What, exactly, does my lack of support for trump have to do with the price of tea in China? (I can’t stand either candidate for POTUS, not that it matters in this case)

I suggest you actually do a little research and see what Caroline has to say. She has actual position papers with what she would actually do if elected. Unlike ALL of the other candidates.
