Atherton's Bellis, 15, pulls stunning upset at U.S. Open

American teen CiCi Bellis of Atherton became the youngest player to win a US Open match since 1996 -- almost three years before she was born -- when she stunned Australian Open runner-up Dominika Cibulkova on Tuesday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

Congratulations to Bellis and her family. And, of course, to her coach and others too. I'm a long time fan of tennis ( began with Agassi's early days} and it always delights me to see and/or hear of such talented new comers. I missed this match but hope to see the next one. Your attitude is right on.

Unfortunately Ms. Bellis lost her second round match to a much weaker opponent than she beat in the first round. She did make a real match out of it. Congrats to her and her family -- maybe next year or the year after for further progress.
