The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office has released the name of a man killed in a motorcycle crash on state Highway 1 near Devil’s Slide Tuesday afternoon.

Nicolas Eric Narag, a 31-year-old from Los Angeles, has been identified as the man killed while on his motorcycle.

The crash involving a 1998 Yamaha motorcycle and a 2001 Toyota pickup truck was reported on Highway 1 just south of Devil’s Slide near Pacifica at 2:52 p.m., according to the CHP.

Narag was killed after apparently speeding north on the highway. He was apparently unable to negotiate a turn and crashed into the roadway as his motorcycle tipped, the CHP said.

After hitting the road, he and the motorcycle slid and collided into the front of the Toyota, driven by a 43-year-old Vacaville man. The motorcycle came to a rest on the right shoulder of southbound Highway 1 while Narag continued sliding before stopping on the shoulder, north of the bike.

The Toyota driver, who had been driving south, stopped at the scene. He was not injured in the crash, according to the CHP.

The crash prompted the closure of northbound traffic on the highway at Montara State Beach, while southbound traffic was stopped at Linda Mar Boulevard in Pacifica.

The road reopened around 5 p.m.

  1. With all the reports of motorcycle accidents and deaths in the newspapers, I can’t recommend that anyone use them. Only advantage is high mpg.

  2. Using that same logic Sheldon, with all of the news lately about children being kidnapped and/or killed, we probably shouldn’t recommend having children. Also, there has been way too much news about athletes collapsing and dying on football fields and basketball courts, so let’s stop recommending excercise and sports. And it seems like there are far more auto related deaths than motorcycle, so I would strongly recommend not using cars any more. I could go on but………..the article clearly stated that the driver was speeding on Hwy 1 and could not navigate a turn. You abuse ANYTHING, even eating, drinking, sex, taking shortcuts, you name it, and you risk injury or death. Even acting appropriately can lead there. Motorcycle riding is fun, exhilarating, economical transportation and recreation, when done sensibly. For you, I do not recommend it.
