The 55-year-old director of Menlo Park’s Belle Haven childcare center charged with harassing the teenage daughter of a co-worker appeared in court as his trial began on Tuesday, Oct. 26.
Jose Adalberto Lopez, of San Mateo, met the 13-year-old girl when she came to the preschool to do homework, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
As time passed the man gave her gifts — earrings, a silver bracelet … and women’s underwear. The district attorney’s office said that when she stopped speaking to him, he sent letters asking why she was ignoring him.
Those letters proved to be his undoing. A secretary found one earlier this year and turned it over to the victim’s mother, who called police.
He had worked at the center since 2001.
This has happened before, but it didn’t go to trial. That employee was protected by the union, could not be fired even tho there was video of him molesting teen girl (and multiple reports before that). He still works for Menlo Park a decade later. If a molester goes to trial, thats an improvement.
