The election is over before it began in the Menlo Park City and Las Lomitas school districts because only three candidates filed for the three open seats in each district by the end of the filing period Wednesday, Aug. 8.

In both districts, the filing period was extended because one of the incumbents did not file. San Mateo County Elections Manager David Tom said that uncontested school board elections are automatically cancelled.

Las Lomitas district

In Las Lomitas incumbents Richard Ginn and Christine Heaton will each serve a new four-year term. John Earnhardt, director of corporate communications at Cisco and a district parent, will join them, replacing current Las Lomitas board president Jay Siegel who did not file for re-election.

Menlo Park district

In the Menlo Park City School District, incumbents Terry Thygesen and Joan Lambert will each serve an additional term. Stacy Jones, who is co-chair of the district’s advisory council and has three children in district schools, will replace incumbent Scott Hinshaw, who was appointed to fill the remainder of Laura Rich’s term in February, and who did not file for election.
