A 9-year-old girl, Lahee Hong of Menlo Park, died Tuesday night as a result of a drowning at an apartment community pool in the 300 block of Sharon Park Drive in Menlo Park, police reported.
Lahee and her mother were visiting friends at the apartment complex. Lahee was playing around the pool and accidentally fell in while trying to retrieve a ball, according to Menlo Park police spokeswoman Nicole Acker. “It was an unfortunate accident,” Ms. Acker said. “Our condolences go out to the family.”
At 5 p.m. Tuesday, fire crews and police officers were called to the 300 block of Sharon Park Drive and found the girl near the apartment swimming pool unconscious and not breathing, police said.
Medical personnel administered CPR in an attempt to resuscitate her, and continued to do so as she was taken to Stanford Medical Center. Medical staff there also administered CPR.
Despite these efforts, the girl was pronounced dead by the attending physician, police said.
