On Wednesday night, a community workshop kicks off Menlo Park’s study of potential transportation and safety improvements to the segment of El Camino Real between Sand Hill Road and Encinal Avenue.
The goal is to make all modes of travel along and across El Camino Real more efficient. To that end, the study will examine reconfiguration options, such as possibly widening the street to make room for a bike lane or an additional car lane,for a total of three lanes in each direction.
The April 30 meeting will focus on identifying key issues and priorities, as will an online survey that will launch in May. Click here for more information about the study.
The workshop will start with an open house at 6:30 p.m., followed by presentations and discussions until 9 p.m. at the Menlo Park Presbyterian Social Hall, located at 700 Santa Cruz Ave.

What about the three blocks from Encinal to Watkins – they’re in Menlo Park on El Camino and there are major pedestrian safety issues in those three blocks considering the number of folks hit crossing ECR. And the only access to Stone Pine, Buckthorn, Forest and Spruce streets is via ECR.

The plan from a big business/ local politician group calling itself the GRAND BOULEVARD TASK FORCE is to slow traffic on El Camino and then seize the center lane in each direction for BUSES ONLY. This make-believe “study” is part of a larger scam. Bus-only lanes are already being established in San Jose on the same bus line.
