People looking for a way to support kids in need may consider donating toys or gift cards to the Children’s Fund of San Mateo County, which is hosting a toy drive this holiday season.

The drive, which is administered by the county Human Services Agency, collects and distributes toys on behalf of 3,500 low-income and foster children throughout the county.

According to Selina Toy Lee, who heads the Children’s Fund and is director of the county’s Collaborative Community Outcomes initiative, all of the monetary donations received go to purchase toys for children who are served by the program.

Throughout the year, the fund serves about 4,500 children. In addition to the holiday toy drive, it finances necessary orthodontic treatment and provides kids with costumes at Halloween and with backpacks and school supplies at the start of the school year.

To support the effort, people can donate money, toys (via this extensive Amazon wish list with children’s specific requests) or volunteer.
