Menlo Park neighborhood hit with auto burglaries

Menlo Park police received reports of five auto burglaries that occurred in the same general vicinity during the early morning hours of Monday, Aug. 12.

Four of the incidents happened in the 700, 800 and 900 blocks of Roble Avenue, and the fifth was in the 900 block of Florence Lane. In all five incidents, someone smashed a window to break into the vehicle, according to Menlo Park Police spokesperson Nicole Acker.

In one incident in the 900 block of Roble, the victim reported the loss of a jacket and sunglasses worth an estimated $230.

In the two incidents in the 700 block of Roble, a box containing $1,000 worth of construction parts was taken and a cooler, sunglasses and eyeglasses worth a total of $750 were stolen.

In an incident is the 800 block of Roble, the thief discarded items taken from the vehicle that were located a short distance away.

Nothing was reported stolen from the vehicle in the incident on Florence Lane.

Police have not identified a suspect in the break-ins.

Rule #1: Do not leave anything valuable in your car. Define valuable broadly.

Rule #2: Consider surveillance. Can you aim a CCTV setup at your car? Does a neighbor have cameras?

Ok, and rule #4: if you voted for Prop 47 don't complain about property crime, this is what you voted for.

What I see and hear is that so called 'petty crimes' such as theft and vandalism in this area have gone up significantly in the recent years.
Not sure if it has to do with more rapid renter turnover. home-sharing (AirBnB), or just increased construction activities (gentrification).

Considered that most thefts and vandalism aren't reported (and other than financed cars often not insured), this is just the tip of the iceberg of a larger degeneration of quality of life in that neighborhood.

Just getting to the level of the rest of MP east of ECR, I guess,

And MP resident:

I hear what you say quite often.

But since when is a victim to blame for somebody else committing a crime?
Or even better, being responsible for documenting evidence and prosecuting?

That really is a sign of a degrading community and society.

"She should not have been wearing that revealing clothing...."

"Yeah, I did see the harassment, but that's not my problem".

Sounds familiar?

Menlo Voter. is a registered user.

concerning:

never mind your other responses. The key is Prop 47. IF You voted for it, pat yourself on the back. You and your fellow voters that did can thank yourselves for the current uptick in property crimes. If you didn't vote for prop 47, then you can thank those that did. They decriminalized criminal behavior. Shocking that would result in an increase in criminal behavior. No?
