Menlo Park: Three file for two council seats

Two incumbents and a challenger have filed candidacy papers to run for two open Menlo Park City Council seats in the Nov. 8 election.

Incumbents Ray Mueller and Catherine Carlton and challenger Cecilia Taylor filed papers by the Aug. 12 deadline, according to the city clerk's office. Mr. Mueller and Ms. Carlton submitted their documents on Aug. 11 and Ms. Taylor submitted hers on Aug. 12, the office said.

The paperwork has been passed to the San Mateo County elections office for verification. If there are no problems, the candidates will be considered "qualified" to run for four-year terms on the five-member council.

Mr. Mueller announced his campaign for re-election and Ms. Carlton indicated intent to run again back in March 2016.

Ms. Taylor announced on Aug. 8 that she plans to run. She is a third-generation resident of Belle Haven and said it has been 30 years since someone from Belle Haven served on the City Council, as far as she is aware.
