Sunday: North Fair Oaks festival

The 13th annual North Fair Oaks Community Festival will take place on Sunday, Aug. 17, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m on Middlefield Road between 1st and 5th avenues in North Fair Oaks.

The festival will have free live entertainment, arts and crafts, food and beverages, children's rides and activities, and a parade.

Festival proceeds go to the youth programs of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office and provide scholarships through the Queen of Festival scholarship program, which awards $23,000 in scholarships.

The winner of this year's Queen of the Festival competition and a $10,000 scholarship is Florence Ortiz of Redwood City, who was crowned on Aug. 8. Ms. Ortiz graduated from Woodside High School and plans to attend UC Santa Cruz in the fall.
