Sunday: African Children's Choir performs at Ladera church

 

A free concert of African songs is set for 11 a.m. Sunday, March 2, at the Ladera Community Church, United Church of Christ, at 3300 Alpine Road in Ladera.

The African Children's Choir, which has performed for Queen Elizabeth II and sung with Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox, Keith Urban and Mariah Carey, will be at the church for a concert of children's songs, traditional spirituals and gospel favorites. The concert is open to the public.

Many choir members have lost parents to war, famine and disease, according to the choir's website. "They represent all the children of a continent and they demonstrate the potential of African children to become strong leaders for a better future in their land," the website says.

Donations are requested and are used to support choir programs.

The concert was a great success with a full house of community members of all ages. Over $5000 was raised, all of it going to the non-profit. If you missed the concert there are pictures at www.ladera.org and a short film clip on the Ladera community church Facebook page.
