College applications are open!

Uploaded: Aug 1, 2017
(written by Lori McCormick)

August marks the start of college applications becoming available for 2017-2018.

The Common Application, which over 700 colleges use, is now officially available. For students who created profiles prior to last week’s application shut down, your information will be rolled over into the 2017-2018 application. Double check that your information successfully rolled over. You might need to re-add your colleges, as they recommended doing this after August 1st. Visit the Common Application's website to create or log in to your account. https://apply.commonapp.org/Login

The University of California’s application is also now available. Students can create their accounts and upload their personal insight questions at the following link. https://admissions.universityofcalifornia.edu/applicant/login.htm

The California State University system replaced their online application, CSU Mentor, on August 1st to Cal State Apply. You can find the new (and hopefully improved?) application at this link. https://www2.calstate.edu/apply

College application deadlines will vary. Please make sure you double and triple check your deadlines and all the pieces you are submitting with your applications. This is not the time to make any mistakes! Teachers and counselors are great resources at your school to ask questions to and have them review your work.

Happy application season!

2017-2018 or 2018-2019?

An additional application now being used by a number of mainly elite colleges is the Coalition Application, also available now on-line. Any student applying to the University of Washington should know they ONLY accept the Coalition Application, and have ONE deadline, November 15.

Teachers and counselors are indeed great resources.

However, there are some places that institutionalize bad advice by being so overcompetitive that they forget why the student is going to college.
