Firefighters extinguish fire in warehouse
Firefighters put out a 2-alarm fire in a commercial warehouse in Menlo Park late Saturday night, Sept. 1, a fire chief said.
Fire crews responded just after 11:45 p.m. to the fire at the 5,000-square-foot warehouse of wooden and plastic pallet business Duran Pallets at 3620 Haven Ave., Menlo Park Fire District Chief Harold Schapelhouman said.
Fire personnel had to break into the smoke-filled warehouse by cutting holes in the building's rolling metal doors, the fire chief said.
"The good news was that they had a sprinkler system, so that kept the fire in check until we could get the building opened up," he said.
Once inside, firefighters saw a roughly 10-foot stack of wooden pallets on fire.
It took about 20 minutes to get the fire under control, Chief Schapelhouman said.
The chief said exposed electrical cords may have sparked the fire, but an investigation into exactly what caused the blaze is ongoing.
He said the fire caused an estimated $25,000 in damage to the building.
No workers were inside the warehouse at the time of the fire, and no firefighters were injured.
