Trinity students present community service awards

Bookmark and Share
Fifth-grade students with Trinity Elementary School in Menlo Park recently presented a "Heart of Trinity Award" and $100 to each of five community service organizations.

As graduating fifth-graders, the students split into five groups. Each group agreed on an organization to support, often based on the students ' volunteer experience. Trinity students participate in community service projects throughout their time at the school, from working at homeless shelters to helping animals, according to school spokesperson Cindy Tipton.

Organizations chosen by this year's class were: Save the Bay, Habitat for Humanity, East Palo Alto YMCA, World Wildlife Fund, and Invisible Children.

This "program gives them (the students) a tangible way to provide help," says fifth-grade teacher Kathy Hoekenga.
