Portola Valley to honor Martin Litton

Bookmark and Share
Martin Litton, a renowned environmental activist and a Portola Valley resident since 1958, will be honored at the Blues & Barbecue Festival at the Portola Valley Town Center on Sunday, Sept. 16.

Mr. Litton, who is 95, has a lifetime of activism behind him, including successful efforts in partnership with Friends of the Earth founder David Brower and desert preservation activist Edward Abbey to block dams that would have flooded the Grand Canyon and Dinosaur National Monument in Colorado.

Proceeds from the festival go to the Portola Valley Open Space Acquisition Fund.

Mr. Litton is still active today. In a bid to protect trees on a property near the Sequoia National Forest, he is engaged in a campaign to persuade members of Congress to sign a letter to President Obama that would authorize the transfer of the property to the National Park Service from the National Forest Service, according to a story on the Portola Valley town website.
