Around Town: Woodside soprano to sing anthem at Giants game
Julia Belanoff of Woodside , 17, will sing "the Star Spangled Banner" at AT&T Park before the game between the San Francisco Giants and the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, June 3.
"I'm really excited," she says in a press release. "The Giants are my favorite baseball team. When I was a little kid, I loved when they let us run around the bases at the end of the game. I can't wait to stand on the field at AT&T and sing the national anthem."
Julia, a junior at Woodside High School, recently released her debut classical-pop album, "Winner in Your Heart." A music video of her signature song, "Goodnight San Francisco," can be seen on YouTube.
How to reduce outdoor watering
Drop by the East Palo Alto Home Depot parking lot on June 2 to learn how to reduce outdoor watering.
The free event, hosted by Menlo Park and local water agencies, showcases drought-tolerant plants, water-efficient ways to landscape, and other mini-clinics.
It runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the East Palo Alto Home Depot at 1781 E. Bayshore Road.

Breast cancer benefit
A gourmet dinner benefiting Breast Cancer Connections will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at the Garden Court Hotel, 520 Cowper St. in Palo Alto.
The event will feature Paul Goerg Champagne and dinner prepared by Chef Clive Berkman. A native of Johannesburg, South Africa, Chef Berkman trained in London. He is the author of "Empty Bottles," a cookbook recounting his experiences as a celebrity chef.
Tickets for the dinner at $150 per person may be purchased through EventBrite.com. Breast Cancer Connections is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting people touched by breast cancer.
Western Day fundraiser
B.O.K. Ranch, a therapeutic riding center for people with special needs, will hold its 27th Western Day fundraiser from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at 1815 Cordilleras Road in Redwood City.
The event will feature barbecue by the Redwood City fire department, live music, children's games, a petting zoo and more. Tickets are $45 at the door. Children under 12 are admitted free. Call 366-2265 for more information.
