Youth accused of trying to run over deputy
Deputies from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office are on the lookout for a young man accused of theft and of trying to run over a deputy sheriff at the Ladera Swim & Tennis Club at about 2 p.m. Sunday, March 18.
Club staff had been detaining the man on suspicion of stealing from the lockers there, but he escaped and ran outside, according to the Sheriff's Office. The club is at 3249 Alpine Road, just west of the intersection with La Mesa Drive.
A deputy arriving on the scene saw him and tried to stop him, but the youth got into his car — a tan or salmon colored sedan, perhaps a Nissan Maxima or Toyota Camry from the early 2000s — and "intentionally attempted to run over the deputy," before heading east on Alpine Road and then north on Interstate 280, deputies said.
There were no injuries. Deputies describe the suspect as Caucasian, 5-foot, 6-inches tall, with brown hair and weighing about 140 pounds. He was wearing a white long-sleeve T-shirt and black pants.
