Drill to test emergency distribution of medicine

Bookmark and Share
How long would it take county agencies and volunteers to distribute medicine after a large-scale emergency? On Thursday, March 15, San Mateo County will run a drill from 9 a.m. to noon to find out.

The "Silver Dragon VI" emergency exercise will test how long it takes teams to distribute earthquake safety brochures to 15,000 homes to simulate how quickly medicine could be delivered after an emergency.

The drill also evaluates how fast the county can receive and distribute supplies from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stockpile, which aims to deliver medications to any state within 12 hours if needed after an event severe enough to deplete local provisions.

Participating agencies include the Menlo Park Fire Protection District, the San Mateo Medical Center, and the Red Cross.
