Woodside High stages 'Aida'

Woodside High School's Theatre Arts department will present Elton John and Tim Rice's "Aida" with a cast of more than 45 students on March 9, 10, 11, and March 16 and 17 in the school's performing arts center.

"Aida" is a contemporary take on the classic tale of the bond between an enslaved Nubian princess and an Egyptian solder. As love blossoms between them, the young lovers are forced to face death or part forever.

The pop-rock score, with music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice, features both ballads and choral numbers. The musical won four Tony Awards in 2000, including the best musical. The show will be directed by drama teacher Barry Woodruff.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. March 9, 10, 16, and 17; and 2 p.m. March 11. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors (65 and over), and $10 for students.
