Briefs: Paul Appelblom opens jewelry store

Paul Appelblom of Portola Valley invites the public to the grand opening of Appelblom Jewelry Co. at 82 East Third Street in San Mateo from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7. Hosted by Events by Collette, the evening will feature local wines, chocolates, and other goodies.

After several years in a partnership in the jewelry business in Hawaii, Mr. Appelblom recently returned to the Bay Area to start his own store. Specializing in original and custom luxury jewelry, the new shop reflects a 1950s theme.

Mr. Appelblom, who grew up in Portola Valley, is a graduate of Woodside Priory and the University of Arizona.

Domino tournament

The Children's Health Council Auxiliary will present its 50th and final Masters Domino Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Menlo Circus Club, 190 Park Lane in Atherton.

Tournament registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with play at 9:30 a.m. The fee of $150 per advanced player and $75 for novice player includes a continental breakfast, buffet luncheon, tournament play of eight games, and departure gifts.

A golden anniversary cake will be filled with cash and gift certificates. The raffle will feature an entertainment package, including a high definition big screen television, popcorn machine, and many other gifts.

Reservation deadline is Monday, Feb. 20. To register call the Children's Health Council Auxiliary at 617-3916.
