Briefs: Atherton finance director to retire
Atherton's Director of Finance Louise Ho will be retiring in November, Interim City Manager John Danielson announced Thursday, Oct. 27.
"It is my decision to retire," Ms. Ho told the Almanac on Monday, Oct. 31.
A certified public accountant with a master's degree in taxation, Ms. Ho spent five years in Sausalito as finance director before coming to Atherton in October 2008. Before that she spent 16 years working in private industry.
"I enjoyed working for Atherton," she said. "I enjoy a challenge."
She said she appreciated parts of her job that others might think are stressful, such as working for council members. "They ask questions that I think challenge me intellectually, and I like it," she said.
Good Samaritan saves day planner
A man got a mysterious call from a stranger in Menlo Park, who said she'd found his day planner abandoned by the side of the road.
When he went to his car parked in the Menlo Park Civic Center lot early in the evening on Oct. 25, he found a rear window smashed on his 2008 Mercedes. Sure enough, the $15 planner that had been left on a seat was no longer there. Nothing else was missing.
He met up with the Good Samaritan, who returned the planner with all contents intact, police said.
See the stars
Weather permitting, the San Mateo County Astronomical Society invites the public to stargaze on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the main Menlo Park library at 800 Alma St. Telescopes provided. The fun starts at 7:30 p.m.
