Menlo man sentenced for local school burglaries
• He pleaded no contest.

After pleading no contest on burglary charges related to local school break-ins, Jaime Maldanado, 20, was sentenced Oct. 6 to 16 months in county jail, with credit for 32 days already served, the San Mateo County district attorney's office said.
The Menlo Park man broke into the Hillview, Laurel, and German-American International schools along with at least two teenagers during a single week in September. Their ill-gotten loot included 26 iPads and $400, although Hillview Middle School recovered 12 of its tablet computers.
He was arrested after a police dog provided incentive to surrender at the scene of the Laurel Elementary School break-in.
Mr. Maldanado also owes $360 in fines. At the time of arrest he was on probation for possessing stolen property in Santa Clara County, and also faces similar charges for somehow finding himself with 10 laptops stolen from the Palo Alto Unified School District.
