Research biologists talks on battered Bay
Senior research biologist Jim Cloern will discuss the obstacles faced by the fragile San Francisco Bay environment in a free public lecture at the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 28. The lecture will be held in Conference Room A of Building 3 on the campus at 345 Middlefield Road.
A combination of factors including effects from the gold mining era, the highly urbanized landscape of the Bay Area, transoceanic shipping in the Bay, climate shifts, and the damning of rivers has led to the serious degradation of the Bay, Mr. Cloern says.
Mr. Cloern, who is with USGS in Menlo Park, will talk about how scientists are working to combat these threats.
