Pacifica-Daly City Democrats hosting Supervisorial Spring Forum Saturday May 19

The Pacifica-Daly City Democrats are hosting Supervisorial Spring Forum this Saturday at the rear banquet room of the Sharp Park Golf Course Restaurant in Pacifica. This event is featuring the following District 4 Supervisorial candidates: Menlo Park City Council members Andy Cohen and Kirsten Keith; East Palo Alto City Council members Carlos Romero and David Woods; Redwood City Planning Commissioner Ernie Schmidt; San Mateo County school board members Memo Morantes; Redwood City elementary school board member Shelly Masur; and former San Mateo County Elections Officer and Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder Warren Slocum. This event is open to everyone regardless of political persuasion. Seating starts at 9 AM. The meeting goes from 9:30AM to 11:30 AM. Atherton - Charter City?

Atherton's Council will consider whether to become a Charter City this Wednesday. From Wikipedia: For example, in California, cities which have not adopted a charter are organized by state law. Such a city is called a General Law City, which will be managed by a 5-member city council. A city organized under a charter may choose different systems, including the "strong mayor" or "city manager" forms of government. One example of abuse of the charter system was in Bell, California. The charter was created after a lit�tle-no�ticed spe�cial elec�tion, where few voters understood what becoming a charter city meant. After a charter was approved, state laws limiting city salary no longer applied and City Manager Robert Rizzo gave himself a salary of $1.5 million for managing a city of about 36,000 people.
