RE: Police Report -- So sad. Life was not always so threatened by property crime not that long ago.
Thank Sacramento and Prisoner Realignment for this increase in property crime.
you need to thank a judge. Prison realignment wasn't up to Sacto.
While we feed the insatiable financial appetites of the 1%, we blindly are creating people of poverty desperate for a way to get some cash and meet basic needs. We do little to provide help, jobs and a good, worthwhile education system (why not have trade schooling, etc., for high school) these days or something that provides people with skills for working, decent minimum wage laws, good transportation that is usable...you get the idea.
Wrong, Sacramento did not fund the needed prisons in turn creating the overcrowding. Realignment was a bad solution to a problem they created. As to Beth, these thieves would make more on today's minimum wage than from stealing our belongings. At some point personal responsibility is required. Plenty of people in poverty do not resort to breaking the laws and violating other people.
if you want to really look at the big picture, I'd say our ridiculous drug laws are at the bottom of most of the prison overcrowding problem. Putting people in prison for drug possession is just stupid and creates a ridiculous demand for prison space. That money could be better spent on treatment programs. Frankly, it would cost a lot less than building prisons.
I am in COMPLETE agreement with you on the drug laws. Though I am not sure the size of the BIG PICTURE it comprises, it is a start.
I just know AB109 is leading to an increase in crime and AB900, though partially defunded, was not enough.
AB this and legislators that, come on...How about teaching personal responsibility BY MOM AND/OR DAD to start with. I am tired of hearing people complain that the government is too permissive or overly punitive. My family doesn't steal, do drugs, drive drunk or cheat because we have a sense of obligation to ourselves and our community. I see to many parents saying "boys will be boys" and not admonishing poor choices early. We can all do better.
I had a fabulous repast on Pope Street where I feasted on some extra chewy brownies, a gallon of "Strawberry Fields" Electric Kool Aid and some faux spinach lasagna to die for.
Don't miss out on the discussion!
