child laying in street on Friday???
Menlo Park, posted by concerned parent, a resident of the Menlo Park: Downtown neighborhood, on Mar 2, 2013 at 10:04 pm

Could someone please tell me what happened on Friday on the corner of Hobart and Santa Cruz? There was a child laying in the middle of the street and police all around. This was around 3:!5. From a distance it looked like the child was hit by a car -is this true? I hope not!!!

The traffic on Santa Cruz and the number of kids walking along from Hillview is a dangerous combination. I wish the city would do something about the groups of kids 4-5 wide walking while cars zip by -- a lot of them driving well over the speed limit. It's a huge concern.

thank you.

Do you have the right to know what happened to a minor child? Have you called the police to ask?

First, that is "lying" in the street, not "laying."

I believe that an accident that requires public resources is a matter of public record. There are many minor incidents that aren't reported simply because...there are so many of them.

We may not have the right to know the identity of the child, but we do have the right to know when and where car vs. pedestrian collisions occur around town. Without this information, dangerous streets may never be identified and fixed.

Are you stating for a fact that you have a legal right to the info, or you're just saying that you *think* you have that right? Call the police, for pity's sake & ask them what happened. If you're not clear on your rights to the info, ask an attorney.

The police log listed an incident at that time and location as a "vehicle accident with minor injury." According to the report, a 2006 silver moped driven by a 36-year-old woman allegedly rear-ended a 2006 white Toyota Tundra driven by a 32-year-old man. The woman was transported to the hospital after saying she was in pain.
