Realtor Monique Lombardelli isn't content just to sell iconic, 1950s-era Joseph Eichler homes. She wants to build them, too -- capturing the midcentury-modern aesthetic by using the original floor plans but updating the construction to meet today's standards.

Even though I am in Seattle, I lived in an Eichler (owned by my aunt and uncle) when I first got a job at Varian Associates in 1957. (Palo Alto) The glass was floor to ceiling and wall to wall that faced a creek buffer. Sadly some years later, I found out it had burned to the ground. The idea of replicating an Eichler can be a challenge as I became a residential designer and electrician after retiring from Aerospace. Should Ms.Lambardelli need expertise in reviewing the new design I would more than be able to help with electrical upgrading. Best Regards, Ben Jacks

In about 1957 or '58 my three housemates and I lived on the corner of Amherst St. and College Avenue in College Terrace, Palo Alto. We were told that the home that we rented was one of Joe Eichler's early houses in this area. It was not the typical Eichler, but it did have big windows, four bedrooms and a great outdoor exposure. The house is still there, and appears to be in good condition.
