Will Miracles Never Cease? The San Mateo DA Actually WILL Prosecute Law Enforcement Officers
Other Topics, posted by Menlo Voter, a resident of the Menlo Park: other neighborhood, on Dec 27, 2012 at 8:59 am

Links to two articles in which the San Mateo DA is or has prosecuted a law enforcement officer:

Web Link carrier charged with stealing mail

Web Link officer takes deal for embezzlement

The interesting thing to note in the second case is that the officer plead guilty to a felony rather than a misdemeanor. This means he will never work in law enforcement again and is permanantly barred from possessing firearms.

Well, one has yet to be convicted and the other got a slap on the wrist.

Plus, this is a very odd but telling comment by DA Wagstaffe in one of the stories:

"Of course, there is always the philosophical question of whether a police officer should be held to a little bit higher standard.”

Many citizens believe that Wagstaffe does not hold police in San Mateo County to higher standards.

Come on now...it's well known that he won't even hold them to the SAME standard let alone a higher one. All part of backwards SMC and unions having way too much say, and Wagstaffe's "law enforcement family" philosophy.

I can tell you when he will prosecute and when he won't. It's really simple (I used to work in that office): does the police department/chief support it or not? Has nothing to do with any other factor.
