FBI probe in Atherton
Around Town, posted by Anony, a resident of the Menlo Park: Belle Haven neighborhood, on Aug 9, 2012 at 8:17 pm

What happened to that alleged probe? It's been nearly 2 years since it was first claimed that the FBI opened an investigation into Atherton city affairs. No arrests. Was this claim of an investigation false?

They didn't nail Capone in a week, or a couple of years.

Today's crimes are far more plentiful and among the elitists who will no longer have privileged encarceration.

Even Trump is getting a roust.Ever since he brought up that birth certificate nonsense and lost millions.

A number of people spread a rumor about the FBI so that they could pressure Atherton council to cough up a big settlement for John Johns, who was suing the Town. It was just a scam. The Almanac fell for it, along with quite a few people in town. No probe. Just a couple of guys asking the receptionist at the FBI office to fill out a form ... a form that probably no agent spent more than a minute reading. Since it is well know that the FBI's policy that it will neither confirm nor deny that an investigation is under way, this was the perfect scam. No way for the victims of the scam to clear their names.

KH:

you need to check your facts. The rumors of the FBI investigation came up AFTER the John Johns settlement. Atherton settled because they had blown it and they were wrong. They didn't want to bleed any more in attornies fees for what was clearly a loser for them.

KH,

If you want to talk about a scam settlement I think you must include the $250,000 given the Atherton Police Officer after the criminal case was lost and no depositions were even taken for the civil case. Talk about a scam

KH: I still have the cards of both of the two FBI agents who interviewed me for three hours about the San Mateo DA's office.

I didn't fill out a single form. I have never lived in Atherton and the agents never asked me about John Johns or anyone else who lives in Atherton. Their focus was DA Wagstaffe.

I never fell for the FBI rumor when it first started going around. I always ignore things that people like Michael Stogner, Peter Carpenter or Cathy McKeithen say given their track record.
