I worked with Tom in the late 70's and early 80's when he was at SRI. He was an excellent scientist, a great winemaker, and a wonderful man. The world has lost one of its gems. I will miss you, Tom. My sincere condolences to his family.

Tom Mudd was one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. When we Indians took over Alcatraz Island on November 19, 1969, Tom came up immediately from Woodside and helped us. He and I became fast friends. He came to my house for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other celebrations for several years. In the meantime, I had gone to Stanford to work on my doctorate. Tom followed a few years later. He already had a BS and an MS degree from Stanford, but he finally decided to get his doctorate. he gave us the start-up funds for an Indian scholarship program in December 1969. That occupation has consumed my life for most of the past 45 years, with a detour to be President of the oldest Indian college in the nation, Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Tom blessed my life, and I thank him. Dean Chavers, Albuquerque, director of Catching the Dream
