San Mateo County voters defeated two San Mateo County tax measures Tuesday. The vote on Measure T, a tax on rental-car company receipts, is close, with "yes" votes exceeding "no" votes by just 311.

I hate to say it, but I think the dopey electorate thought these taxes would be imposed on them, as I just can't imagine there are that many pro-business voters in SM County. "Power to the people" via ballot box measures and initiatives presumes far too much about the peoples' ability to understand the issues being thrust before them. Good luck to the Supervisors closing the now $12M larger budget shortfall. The people will definitely pay for that directly through service cuts, which is what they have essentially (and sadly probably unwittingly) voted for.

Talk about not getting the message, the Supervisors have been told by the voters of San Mateo County time and time again spend within you budget which they have refused to do, they continue to give raises to some favorite people/groups without having the income to pay for it. They have approved a JAIL we can not afford, or sofar we don't know how we are going to pay for it and they recently purchased 2 empty buildings for $40,000,000 and plan to spend $10,000,000 to fix it up. Oh I almost forgot they continue to take from the General Fund to balance the budget $40,000,000.
The lesson here is for the Supervisors not the electorate.
