Exempting CEQA review of the High Speed Rail Project
Around Town, posted by Morris Brown, a resident of the Menlo Park: Park Forest neighborhood, on Jun 6, 2012 at 4:08 pm

State Senator Steinberg is leading the charge to pass an exemption from CEQA violations for the High Speed Rail project, such that the project could not be stopped due to judgements in a successful CEQA suit.

Steinberg will be using all the tricks possible in pushing the Legislature to pass this shameful, disgusting measure; it will be on a fast track basis, bypassing committees and thereby circumventing much public comment.

The Sierra Club of California has just issued strong objection to this tactic. View the letter at: Web Link

The final sentence:

“In the interest of the environment, and in the interest of rebuilding public support for rail in this state, we urge you, in the strongest possible terms, to abandon the proposal to weaken environmental review for the high-speed rail system."

tells the story.

Everyone should write or call their State Assembly and Senate representatives, and urge them to stop this measure.

Sorry Morris, but I don't have much hope that writing our governor and our representatives will do much good. They've all been bought and paid for by the labor unions. Money talks and we don't have enough of it to make a difference, the unions do. Just ask Rich Gordon who continues to think HSR is just a peachy idea.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott on his stopping HSR in his state.
