Menlo-Atherton High School’s Franchise Hockey wins League Championship!
In an absolutely stunning upset of Gilroy, Franchise Hockey, the Menlo-Atherton High School roller hockey club team, won the League Championship in the 4B Division at Rollin’ Ice in San Jose last Saturday, June 16th. Franchise Hockey had to play three games on Saturday to capture the title. They beat Mitty B 8-0 in the first game, downed Sobrato 5-1 in the second game and beat #1 seed Gilroy 3-1 in the final. Goalie Mikey Stanzler was voted MVP. Asked to comment on the game, team captain Matt King said, “After the buzzer sounded, the team mobbed Stanzler in an emotional celebration. Clearly aware of how far the team had come from its 0-12 initial campaign, Franchise Hockey had swiftly and effectively reached the top once again.” Assistant captains are Sheraj Ragoobeer and Myles Rowland and the team is coached by David King. Team members include: Matt King, Sheraj Ragoobeer, Myles Rowland, Cameron Rowland, Mikey Stanzler, Kris Anderson, Brian Reich, Chris Cornelius, Josh Capelle, Ray Cleverly and Robby Merk.
