The Bears broke open a close game by scoring two runs in the fifth inning and four more in the seventh to win their fourth straight, moving their season record to 6-4.
Starting pitcher Nils Gilbertson earned the victory, limiting Whitney to two runs over the first four innings. Cam Winn pitched brilliantly in relief, surrendering just a single and no runs over the final three innings. M-A pitchers did not walk any Whitney hitters, throwing just 72 total pitches over seven innings.
The Bearsâ€™ offense produced nine hits, including three by shortstop Casey Eason (who also scored three runs), two doubles by third baseman Ryan Chilcoat, and a two-run double by catcher Jeff Keller. In addition to Keller, Zirbes, Chace Warren, Patrick Moriarty, and Cam Rowland drove in runs for M-A.
Menlo-Atherton returns to action on Tuesday with Cordova Easter Tournament contests against Capital Christian-Sacramento at 10 a.m. and Wood-Vacaville at 4 p.m.
