Sanchez Adobe
Around Town, posted by JB, a resident of another community, on Nov 2, 2006 at 1:27 pm

There is a wonderful site of California History in our own backyard.

The Sanchex Adobe built between 1842 and 1846 was restored in 1953 to its orignal adobe bricks, furnishings and structure. The two story building provided a home for Francisco Sanchez and his family. Francisco was a soldier of the San Francisco Company, later an elector and secretary of the newly organized municipal government of Yerba Buena, now San Francisco; and finally major.

This historic adobe stands on an ealier site the was a working farm to support Mission Dolores in San Francisco. Ohlone Indians worked the farms for the padres. At one time had its own chapel. History goes on to tell us that the adobe became a brothel and later an upscale hotel anticipating the railroad coming down the coast.

School Field trips are a great treat for the kids. Kids can make bricks ala barefoot in the mud pit or make their own candles.

A visit to the adobe is well worth the drive.

The Sanchez Adobe is in Pacifica at 1000 Linda Mar Drive. The adobe is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
