Woodside High grieves over death of freshman

Sadness pervades Woodside High School as students and teachers remember Leyla Beban. The 14-year-old Redwood City freshman died Monday, Nov. 26, after a bicycle accident involving a collision with a vehicle at the corner of Jefferson Avenue and Alameda de las Pulgas.

Was Leyla related to Gary Beban, one of the most famous Redwood City residents? Our prayers go out for her and her family.

Words cannot express how sad this accident makes me feel. The county supervisors need to make it safe for our children (and adults) to ride bikes whenever they need or want to. They have had the opportunity and they rejected it in my community. Hopefully, that will never happen again.
