Mayor Widmer's Unauthorized of Town Funds During Elections
Atherton, posted by Town Funds, a resident of the Atherton: other neighborhood, on Nov 11, 2012 at 2:05 pm

The Town Council approved of Mayor Widmer to issue a press release, but instead he instructed staff to mail out a letter as a rebuttal to the APOA endorsements for city council.

APOA arrest time!

Misuse of Public Resources

The Political Reform Act prohibits public

financing of campaigns, except for elections

in charter cities and counties.

In addition, laws outside the Act prohibit the

use of public resources, such as office

equipment, staff time, etc., for campaign or

personal purposes. (Gov. Code Section

8314; Penal Code Section 426.)

It appears that the Town of Atherton mailed the letter paying the expenses for what was a political attack on a legitimate Politcal Action Committee registered by the AOPA

This appears to be against the law.

Government Code Section 54964 prohibits

an officer, employee or consultant of a local

agency from expending or authorizing the

expenditure of any local agency funds to

support or oppose a ballot measure or a

candidate.

In addition California Penal Code 424-440 covers the same subject in a different manner when a elected representative uses public money for political use and gain.

I think the San Mateo District Attorney should investigate the expenditures made by the Mayor.

Yup, as I said, I'd like the APOA to arrest Widmer. Crimes were clearly committed here

EVEN THOUGH ELIZABETH LEWIS APPROVED (IN WRITING) THE LETTER THAT WAS ACTUALLY SENT OUT BY WIDMER.

Metzger should be the one to do it, and should be authorized to use the physical force necessary to perform a safe arrest (the safety I'm referring to, of course, is Metzger's). Let's also arrest McKeithen, Dobbie, Kupperman, Conlon, Sleeth, McKeithen's family, and anyone else who has ever questioned the police department.
