Fencing classes at Holbrook-Palmer Park
Atherton, posted by Miriam Khosh, a resident of the Atherton: Lindenwood neighborhood, on Jan 9, 2007 at 10:28 am

The town of Atherton Parks and Recreation and SF Fencers' Club are offering beginning fencing classes at Holbrook-Palmer Park, 150 Watkins Ave. in Atherton on Mondays, from 4 to 5 p.m. for youth, ages 7-14; and on Mondays from 8 to 9 p.m. for those 15 and up, including adults.

This beginning fencing class offers a rewarding introduction to the Olympic sport of fencing. The emphasis will be on developing strong coordination while exercising all the major muscle groups of the body.

The coach will provide instruction in the blade techniques of attack, riposte, parries, and disengage. Students will learn the fencing positions of en garde, advance, retreat and lunge.

Upon completion of the beginner course, the fencer will have gained new skills and confidence in meeting fencing opponents.

All fencing equipment is provided.

To register, call Miriam Khosh at 415-640-5671 or e-mail: mkhosh@sbcglobal.net
