Last week, for the first time, I didn't end up with an horribly over-cooked burger at JZ Cool.
My child is addicted to the mac & cheese, and every 8th visit or so, I attempt the hamburger, but they are invariable well-done, no matter how I ask them to cook it.

Dear Allelulia - I would never buy a hamburger at a gourmet restaurant like JZCool. That's akin to asking an opera diva to sing a popular song. It's sounds like a great idea until you experience it, and then you realize that something isn't quite right.
If you want a good burger, go to In-N-Out. The nearest one is at 1159 N. Rengstorff Ave., at the corner of Rengstorff and U.S. 101.

JZ Cool has now been revamped as a wine bar and restaurant. I just tried it out and enjoyed the creative dishes - except for the vegetables which had been grilled (i.e. charred and carcinogenic). There are small and large plates to mix and match, slice and share.
I was surprised that the waiter put the closed sign up early as there weren't many people there. What would you do? Leave the restaurant open later so that there's a chance more would come in - after all where do you dine at 10 pm in Menlo Park? I think if they could get the permits to be open 'til 11pm then maybe people would hang out there.
Why is it that there weren't more people in the restaurant - price, type of food, lack of knowledge about the place, not a compelling outside, lack of buzz, bad experience before - I'm curious - I'd have thought there'd be more people there wanting to try something a little bit different from the usual run of the mill restaurants.
