Town Hall Meeting Shot Down By Jellins/Duboc/Winkler
Menlo Park, posted by CouncilWatcher, a resident of the Menlo Park: Sharon Heights neighborhood, on Nov 15, 2006 at 12:13 am

At the end of tonight's city council meeting, council member Cohen announced plans for an open Town Hall meeting that he and council member Fergusson were proposing for Saturday, December 2, just before the start of the new council on December 5.

Upon hearing this, however, our esteemed Mayor Jellins quickly shot down the idea fearing that - God forbid - regular people could actually come and discuss their issues with council members in an open and informal setting.

He immediately forbid further discussion of the matter entirely, forcing a vote on whether there would be a discussion at all. The vote? You guessed it - 3-2 with the no's being Jellins-Duboc-Winkler.

Closed government without public input right to the end, eh Mayor Cheney (I mean Jellins)???

just have the forum anyway, no Brown Act violation, Andy/Kelly should have a key for the council chambers or another venue if needed. Defying the current mayor and exercising right of assembly would show how juvenile he has become. What's he going to do, charge the taxpayers and have the city atty. get a restraining order?, have the police block the doors? Shouldn't cost anything to run a community service ad in the Almanac/Daily News announcing the town hall meeting. Go for it and expose Jellins and his bunch of sore losers for what they are. Arrogant, no class jerks.
